Twitter made the giant leap from a social networking tool to a suicide prevention method for a local San Jose woman.

Thanks to the popularity of Demi Moore and her 379,446 Twitter followers, along with many other Twitter members, word spread that a San Jose woman known as @sandieguy planned to kill herself by “getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn’t waste time”.

From reading @Sandieguy’s twitter posts over the past couple days, you’ll notice a fast downward spiral of self pity and sadness about her recent divorce.  It started with, “I’m getting divorced and I need to rant. My ex is a jerk,” then randomly to, ”I have to fart,” onto, “Does anyone want to get married?” and finishing with, “gbye…gonna kill myself now.”  (UPDATE: She has since taken down her suicidal tweets)

Thankfully to all those concerned the San Jose Police Department was notified and she was found and taken a psychiatric ward for evaluation.

Way to go Twitter and all those involved in helping Sandie.  I think she bit off more than she planned to chew though.  She probably did need help in some way.  Despite her posts about losing her husband, she did seem a little off and not thinking straight.

She did mention she has a boyfriend though.  Things can’t be that bad right?  Divorce sucks, true, but if you’ve got a boyfriend and an apartment of your own, things can’ t be that bad.  She’s got more than most would in that situation.  Maybe the boyfriend with the new dew said or did something to set her on this self destructive path?
