On a very rainy day, a Paseo Villas resident saw a SJSU Police Officer run a read light and lose control making a sharp left turn. The officer spun out and hit a white Volkswagen with a mother and child inside. Just as fast as the officer collided with the car, he had disappeared to resume the “hot pursuit” with other officers of a man that was running ON FOOT! And did it really take what seemed like 6 police cars chasing one person?
According to the resident which stayed with the mother and child, after approx 20 minutes the officer finally returns to the scene of the accident in an attempt to apologize.
The speed at which the officer took the corner was just absurd considering the amount of rain poring down. Even without the rain, no car could have taken a turn that fast without losing control.
Our local police officers serve a vital role in our safety in San Jose. However, as the BART officer made a bad choice in judgment by shooting a man point blank without cause, this officer had similar poor judgment speeding through an intersection with the streets as wet as they were.
Did they really need so many cars to chase one person and to top it off, is it really necessary to go speeding through the streets with sirens blaring in such a confined space between the buildings? It’s already loud enough when a plain and simple car goes flying through the streets revving its engine.
This is me complaining about poor judgment from a school cop and the ridiculous sirens that blare through the streets. But I still love living in downtown San Jose!
