I recently commented on Pierluigi Oliverio’s awesome “City Hall Diary” post regarding a recent City Hall brainstorming session on ideas to help Downtown during the recession.
While his idea of bringing a cardroom back to Downtown had some merit, I felt there could be better ways of bringing in money without taking it away from those who probably need it most. So along with some other suggestions, I came up with I thought of starting a SanJoseCityLiving.com Night Out!
The goal here is to choose a night for all the locals to head out to a chosen spot for a some awesome grub and a good night out on the town. Consider it a way to drive more business to local venues, potentially invigorate fading hot spots, and to help stimulate the local economy all while having a great time with other local residents of Downtown.
So what do you think? Does a weekly night out on the town with everyone else that enjoys a good time sound like a good way to have fun and help Downtown during this recession? I know I do.

I’ve heard about the San Jose Downtown Residents Association. I receive the newsletter mailed out as well. About how many typically show up to the get together?
Also from what I have heard from clients of my other business is that predominantly these are food based venues. I was even thinking of tying in an additional event such as a concert, event, and or Sharks game.
Also seeing how the the goal is to bring in additional revenue to the city, we can offer a second event in addition to the SJDRA? Just a thought. As San Jose City Living builds in popularity, I’m hoping we can get together a great new group. And hopefully raise more participants with the SJDRA.
The San Jose Downtown Residents Association hosts a similar event monthly where which we invite residents from our association and others from around downtown to join us as we visit DT destinations. Already we have visited A Perfect Finish Wine Bar, Chic Chateu, Flames, and next month we will visit Caffe Trieste. Residents have been very happy with the format.
